Down-home scare down: Forget everything you thought you knew about Maryland Street in University Heights. From dusk to 9 p.m. on Oct. 31, the place is being turned into the Nightmare on Maryland Street Scarefest. The haunted-house extravaganza is a joint effort of four twisted neighbors who have ditched the traditional pink flamingos and garden gnomes for handcrafted tombstones, a re-creation of the creepy Bates Motel, a giant animated smoke-breathing dragon and a corpse-infested funeral parlor. Needless to say, this ain't your typical trick-or-treat stop.
